CASE STUDY & TESTIMONIAL
Kitchen
A Family Affair in Exeter
Sara & Simon
Sara & Simon live on the outskirts of Exeter. They had a very small 1960’s kitchen and growing up with a young family they wanted a bigger space so the children could take part in the cooking. The original kitchen has been moved into the dining room. The property has been extended to create an open plan living space.
They were recommended to Ashgrove by a friend who is an interior designer and has worked with Ashgrove both in bedrooms and kitchens. Sara had an idea for the design and what she wanted was something that didn’t feel like a kitchen when they weren’t using it. Step up designer Luke to the challenge!

What We Did
Sara wanted a wood veneer finish on her cabinets which she struggled to find in regular high street kitchen company. The doors on the kitchen are flat slab doors finished with a real oak veneer. The worktop is quartz.
The design incorporates a work bar, two Siemens single ovens, a wine cooler and Fisher and Paykel fridge freezer. Sara chose not to go for a larder in the traditional sense of a double doored larder just because she preferred having the symmetry of two shelved cupboards either side of the oven units.
We included a ‘Le Mans’ corner which can hold up to 25 kilos. At the front of the bar are wall depth cupboards underneath the bar which actually just look like panelled slabs but there are additional storage cupboards.
Lasting Thoughts
"When I was referred to Ashgrove it was refreshing to hear that they were a local firm within Devon with local builders and for the most part all their stock on site. It was tough because we were in the midst of the pandemic. They should be lauded for being able to achieve this through a really difficult time. I wasn’t just going for something standard like a shaker kitchen in beautiful sage green but we got there and I am really, really happy with it. I haven’t met anybody yet that has walked into it and not really loved the way it has all fitted together."
